Teetering between plausibility and fiction, the project consists of an assemblage of cast polyester forms that rest upon a platform constructed from plastic lumber.  The plastic tree simulates the simulated, bringing the plastic lumber industry full circle.

The project, in its modern plastics, its technology, and its inherent potential to become more, seems to points toward some utopic ideal or some unveiling of the future. At the same time this island paradise is not so much an island oasis but instead some sort of disenchanted oasis, something much lesser then paradise, like an inflated palm tree on the pool deck that stands in for the Caribbean retreat but will persistently fall short of what it proposes.  This tension between the ideal and the dystopic creates what might be best described as a nostalgic longing or a sense of disconnect from the natural world and our place within it.
